Timothy Bromhead

My name is Timothy Bromhead, and I am the Pastor at Chapel By The Sea. We are excited that you are here and hope that you will find what you need. Whether it is a sermon that touches your life or an event that helps you socialize with other believers, we hope you will get involved. Below is a little history about myself and how I landed here.

My Story

Pastor Timothy G. Bromhead, an Ocean City native, was involved in many high school sports, including football, baseball, swimming, and track. He was also involved in Student Council and several other clubs. After graduating in 1984, Timothy attended Liberty University and Philadelphia College of Bible.

When Timothy returned to Ocean City, he started the Son Servants Handyman business, primarily serving the elderly residents with affordable work. Timothy was a Police Officer for the City of Ocean City for 20 years and is now retired. He was the owner and operator of T & M Monkey Bread which had three locations in OC for ten years. He was on staff at Calvary Chapel OC/Coastal Christian for four years. Timothy is currently the pastor at Chapel By The Sea on 55th and Asbury Streets in OC. He has pastored there for over seven years.

In years past, Timothy has also participated in many local ministries serving the community of Ocean City. He was the Youth Director at First Presbyterian Church in OC for four years. He started Overcomers Men’s Ministry, which met bi-monthly, ministering to men in the city. Timothy ministered for 31 years as the Area Director with Young Life, a non-denominational, international student ministry that worked with hundreds of teenagers in OC.

Timothy served on the OC Tabernacle Board of Trustees as the youth liaison to the city. He served on student ministries projects, such as live Nativity scenes, live Easter scenes, parade floats, assisted in starting the Son Club, and helped design the Kull Youth Center. He served for 16 years. Timothy founded and led Son City Ministry for nine years. This group worked with many student ministries in OC and purchased the Ark Retreat Center (a 32 bedroom guesthouse) at 632 Wesley Avenue. This building functioned as a retreat center for Christian groups and a local youth hangout with weekly programs such as Young Life and Christian Surfers, to name a few. Timothy was assistant pastor at Green Tree Ministry in EHT for four years. He is presently involved in a National Police Organization of Police Chaplains, which provides chaplain ministry to local police departments.

Timothy is married to Amy, has seven children, and has a few grandchildren. He resides in Marmora, NJ.

Meet the Chapel Elders

Chapel by the Sea Elders are spiritually mature men of noble character. They assist the Pastor in shepherding the flock and directing the affairs of the church. The Elders provide maturity, promote spiritual stability and growth and help keep the church strong in the faith.

Bill Whittles

In 1973, I joined the Atlantic City Police Department, serving for 26.5 years, including 18 years as a Bomb Technician. That same year, I married Jill, and we have two daughters, Lisa and Laura, each with two children. After retiring from the ACPD in 2000, I worked at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club for 20 years, specializing in irrigation, before retiring in 2020. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, lawn care, model railroading, and electronics.

I drifted from church after high school but returned in the mid-'90s, joining my family at a local Methodist church, where I served in various roles. In 2003, I deepened my faith and accepted Jesus as my Savior during a Walk to Emmaus Weekend. After leaving the Methodist church in 2018, Jill and I found a new home at the Chapel!

Charles Sedberry

When Marie and I met, we both believed that church was necessary for the upbringing of our future children. We always wanted to return and were just waiting for the right time. That opportunity soon came when we arrived in our new neighborhood and met Tim and Amy. I was immediately struck by the intentionality and purpose that they had for God and placing Him above all else. Their friendship gave me hope and security to come back to God's home. It was evident from our first visit that Chapel by the Sea operated radically different compared to what I knew the church to be. I was instantly moved by the genuine warmth and love of the congregation. My faith was restored and I had a hunger driven by the Holy Spirit to come back. I have never left since and I credit my walk with God to this real community.

Larry Johnson

I grew up in Ocean City and attended the Ocean City school system until transferring to Valley Forge Military Academy in 1971, graduating in 1974. I enlisted in the Navy in January 1977 and served for 24 years, retiring in February 2001 as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Supply Corps. I have been married to my wife, Maria for 44 years, and we have a son, two daughters, and six grandchildren. Outside of work I enjoy staying active by surfing, hiking, biking, and scuba diving!

I gave my life to Jesus in February 1980, and over the years, Maria and I have had many ministry opportunities. We began attending Chapel by the Sea in July 2015 and became permanent members in January 2017.

John K. Vogt Jr.

I work as a senior repair technician for a major cable company and enjoy spending time with family, playing guitar, and researching my family’s genealogy. My wife and I, Sherri, live in Upper Township and have two grown children and four grandchildren.

Although I have been attending the Chapel since 2014, I came to faith in Christ over 40 years ago. I now lead the Chapel’s worship ministry.

John M. Vogt Sr.

I currently serve as a Police Lieutenant in the Professional Standards Division of the Ocean City Police Department. I am happily married to my wonderful wife, Melisa, and together we have two children, Johnny and Riley.

Although I have been attending the Chapel since 2014, my faith journey began over 30 years ago. I serve as an Elder and as an active member of the worship team at the Chapel.

Tom Johnson

I came to know the Lord at age 35, while I was in the garden listening to Moody Bible Institute on the radio.

After high school, I found myself working for Stroehmann's Bread Company in warehouse and delivery. I then worked for Dad's Place Marina, and later started my own business. I became owner and repair technician of baots and outboard motors. Years later, I made a change of profession and started my own business as a building contractor doing repair and maintainence to this day.

My wife and I have attended Chapel by the Sea for seven years now and love the teaching from the Word of God. We are looking forward to all God has for us in the future.

Chapel by the Sea Deacons/Deaconess’ support various church ministries, they promote unity among the flock and encourage support from the congregation. They are servant leaders that emulate a life acceptable to God that is worthy of imitation.

Ann Brown

I am a real "Jersey Girl" and I don't pump gas! I was born and raised in Oaklyn, in a small boro near Camden.

I made my public profession of faith in Christ when I was in 5th grade and became a member of Immanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in 1959. I started coming to Chapel By the Sea in the summer in approximately 2003. After I retired in 2008, I became more active and was President of the Women's Association many times.

Gladys Anderson

I was born and raised in Audubon, NJ, in the same house where I lived until I married Bill Anderson in 1951. The youngest of seven, I was blessed with a loving family. I worked as a secretary in the guidance office at Audubon High School for 16 years before spending another 14 years at AT&T. In my free time, I enjoy reading, knitting, and tackling crossword puzzles, crypto-quotes, and Sudoku—though I stick to the easy ones!

In 1998, my husband and I moved to Sea Isle City and joined the Chapel, where we found a welcoming community. When he went to be with the Lord in 2000, the kindness and love of the Chapel family were a great comfort to me. Under Pastor Tim’s teaching and through the Women’s Bible Study on Saturday mornings, I have grown closer to God and strengthened my faith.

Jill Whittles

I grew up in Kearny, NJ, and married my high school sweetheart, Bill, in 1973. We moved to South Jersey when he joined the Atlantic City Police Department, settling in Galloway. I worked as a secretary at Roland Rogers School for 21 years and have been running my own bookkeeping and tax business for 40 years.

Raised in the church, I accepted Jesus at a young age, though I strayed in my twenties and thirties. After returning to the Absecon Methodist Church, I served in various roles, including teaching Sunday school and leading the Pastor-Parish Relationship Committee. I recommitted my life to Christ, alongside Bill, during a Walk to Emmaus weekend. In 2019, we found Chapel by the Sea. We felt welcomed immediately, and after hearing the Word preached directly from the Bible, we knew it was our home.

Keith Johnson

After graduating from Ocean City High School in 1984, I went on to study Youth Ministries at Philadelphia College of Bible. I married my high school sweetheart, Kathleen, and together we raised three sons. I worked as a police officer in Ocean City for 25 years, retiring in 2017.

I love spending time with my family, golfing, hunting, and being on the water.

I accepted the Lord at age fifteen while attended Ocean City Presbyterian Church. Prior to my time at the Chapel, I served in various ministry roles, including teaching Sunday school at Greentree Church, being a junior high youth leader, and serving as a deacon. I volunteered with Young Life for eighteen years and worked for eight summers with Fun in the Sun, running Christian High School camps on the Jersey Shore. I also traveled to Mexico and Guatemala for ministry, building homes and sharing the Gospel.

Hope McGlynn

I attended Ocean City High School, and studied early childhood education at Eastern University. After returning home, I married my husband, Michael. Before becoming a mom to our two boys, Caleb and Clark, I taught preschool at Ventnor Elementary, where I loved helping my students learn and grow. As the oldest of the Bromhead clan, my siblings played a big role in shaping my love for children and education.

My faith has deepened over the years, but after my parents' divorce in high school, I truly made it my own, trusting Christ completely. Chapel by the Sea has strengthened my faith through its teachings, service opportunities, and fellowship. I’ve continued to grow by volunteering alongside Michael with the young adults and children’s ministries at the Chapel, using our gifts to help children grow in their faith.

Marie Sedberry

Growing up in a family of educators, I knew teaching was my passion. With a master’s degree in special education, I’ve spent my entire career in the Atlantic City Public School District, first as a preschool teacher and now coaching preschool teachers in high-quality practices. I’m blessed to share my life with my husband, Charles, and our two children, David and Adeline.

Charles and I first attended Chapel by the Sea on Easter of 2020 and were overwhelmed by the love of the church family. The people there have taught us so much about living Christ-centered lives. In 2023, Charles and I were baptized together, celebrating the Lord as our Savior. Our journey has deepened my understanding and knowledge of God. Since 2024, I have served as a Deaconess. I am eager to continue growing in my personal journey with Jesus Christ and look forward to sharing that love with others.
